prime selling system™ blog series

What good is a proven sales process …
… If you don’t have enough qualified prospects entering it?
PART 2 of 3:
Lead Generation Independent of You

In Part 1 of this series, you discovered Phase 1: Sales Independent of You™.
You learned how to identify your Bullseye Buyer …
… Package your Prime Offer™ …
… Turn what you know into content that educates prospects …
… And guide those prospects through a repeatable sales process another person can follow.
Those first four steps solve an important problem:
Your business can begin turning qualified prospects into customers without depending entirely on you.
But that selling process still needs opportunities.
If you’re the only person who can create those opportunities …
… Lead generation still depends on you.
When you stop calling …
… The conversations stop.
When you stop networking …
… The introductions stop.
When you stop sending messages …
… The responses stop.
And when qualified prospects stop entering the process …
… Sales eventually stop too.
That’s the problem we’ll solve in Part 2.
From Random Leads to Qualified Opportunities
Hi, I’m Eric Dahl, founder of IndependentBusinessBuilder.com and creator of the Independent Business Method™.
During my years in the information technology industry, I personally generated more than $1 million a year in sales.
Over time, I developed a sales system that became so dialed in …
… I reduced my sales involvement to approximately five hours a week.
My close rate reached approximately 80%.
And the principles and processes I developed eventually became the Prime Selling System™.
The Prime Selling System™ is Step 1 of the 12-step Independent Business Method™.

Its 12 steps are organized into three phases:

Phase 1: Sales Independent of You™

Phase 2: Lead Generation Independent of You™

Phase 3: Sales System Independent of You™

In Part 1, we built the selling process.
Now we need to build the engine that keeps qualified opportunities entering and moving through it.
In Part 2, you’ll discover how to:
Create a focused list of the prospects you would most like to serve.
Reach those prospects through five reliable channels.
Give every qualified prospect a visible stage and clear next action.
And automate the routine work that helps interested prospects continue moving forward.
The goal isn’t simply to create more names.
It’s to create and advance more qualified sales opportunities …
… Independent of you.
PHASE 2:
LEAD GENERATION INDEPENDENT OF YOU™
Turn Endless Prospecting Into a System That Creates Opportunities

Phase 1: Sales Independent of You™ gave your business a repeatable selling process.
You identified your Bullseye Buyer.
You established your Prime Offer™.
You turned your expertise into content that educates prospects before the sales conversation.
And you created a Prime Seller System™ that someone else can understand, follow, and eventually replicate.
Your business now has a process for converting qualified prospects into customers.
But that process still needs opportunities.
If you’re the only person who can create those opportunities …
… Lead generation still depends on you.
When you stop calling …
… The conversations stop.
When you stop networking …
… The introductions stop.
When you stop sending messages …
… The responses stop.
Your sales team may have a process they can follow.
But without qualified prospects entering that process …
… Sales eventually slow down.
That’s why Phase 2 comes next.
Phase 2: Lead Generation Independent of You™ builds the engine that consistently creates and advances qualified opportunities …
… Without requiring you to push every prospect forward personally.
“If Only I Had More People to Talk To”
Every owner-operator and salesperson eventually says some version of the same thing:
“If only I had more people to talk to.”
I said it too.
It always seemed as though more leads would solve the sales problem.
Make more telephone calls.
Knock on more doors.
Send more messages.
Attend more networking events.
Get in front of enough people …
… And eventually, someone will be interested.
But that approach created another numbers game.
More Names Didn’t Always
Create More Opportunities
You could generate a large list of names …
… And still have very few real opportunities.
You could spend hours contacting people who didn’t have the right problem.
They weren’t ready to act.
They couldn’t buy.
Or they would never purchase what you were selling.
More leads didn’t necessarily mean more sales.
Sometimes …
… It only meant more people to chase.
The list became longer.
The activity increased.
But the number of meaningful sales opportunities remained unpredictable.
I didn’t need more names.
I needed more of the right people showing genuine interest.
Are You Generating Leads
or Creating Opportunities?
Think about the people entering your sales process today.
Are they qualified Bullseye Buyers who have a real reason to speak with you?
Or are they names on a list?

Traditional Prospecting
Was Becoming More Difficult
Traditional prospecting was also becoming harder.
People were less willing to answer unfamiliar telephone calls.
Door-to-door prospecting required significant time and energy.
Online messages were easy to ignore.
Networking events could introduce me to new people …
… But there was no guarantee I would meet the right person.
Every channel still had value.
But each channel required time.
And if I wanted more activity …
… I had to create more of it personally.
Make another call.
Knock on another door.
Send another message.
Attend another event.
The more opportunities I wanted …
… the more time I spent prospecting.
That wasn’t lead generation independent of me.
It was another job I had created for myself.
I Began Asking a Better Question
Eventually, I realized that the real question wasn’t:
“How can I contact more people?”
It was:
“How can I create more opportunities for the right people to raise their hands …
… And tell me they’re interested?”
That shift changed the way I thought about lead generation.
The goal wasn’t to chase an endless number of random prospects.
The goal was to build a system that consistently created interest among the people most likely to become great customers.
Instead of measuring success only by activity …
… I began thinking about the quality and movement of each opportunity.
Was this someone I genuinely wanted to serve?
Did they fit my Bullseye Buyer Blueprint™?
Had they shown real interest?
Did they understand the value?
And did they have a clear next step?
Those questions moved lead generation beyond a numbers game.
They began turning it into a system.
The Right People Need Several Ways to Find You
I didn’t need an endless list of random prospects.
I needed a focused group of Bullseye Buyers.
I needed several reliable ways to reach them.
I needed a compelling reason for them to respond.
And I needed a follow-up process that continued advancing the relationship after the initial contact.
No single activity could carry the entire job.
Some prospects might respond to a telephone call.
Others might begin through a direct message.
Some might meet me at a networking event.
Others might attend a seminar or respond after receiving valuable information.
The channels could be different.
But they all need to lead into the same selling process.
That’s how disconnected prospecting activities start working as one lead-generation engine.
Every Opportunity Needs a Clear Next Step
Creating the initial response wasn’t enough.
A prospect could express interest today …
… Then become busy tomorrow.
They could request the Consumer’s Guide …
… But never schedule the Free Orientation.
They could attend the orientation …
… But need more time before deciding what to do next.
Without a follow-up process …
… Good opportunities could still disappear.
That meant every qualified prospect needed:
A clear stage.
A clear next action.
A reason to continue the conversation.
And a system that made sure nobody slipped through the cracks.
Lead generation wasn’t only about finding prospects.
It was about advancing relationships.
The Routine Work Didn’t Need to Depend on Me
I also needed to stop making every small action depend on my personal time.
The Consumer’s Guide could be delivered automatically.
The Free Orientation could be scheduled automatically.
Reminders could be sent automatically.
And the Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ could make sure every qualified prospect had a clear next step.
The system could handle the routine work.
That allowed my sales team and me to focus on the human work.
Having conversations.
Understanding the prospect.
Answering questions.
Building trust.
And helping the right people make informed decisions.
Automation Should Support the Relationship
The purpose wasn’t to automate the human relationship.
It wasn’t to make prospects feel as though they were moving through a machine.
And it wasn’t to remove genuine conversation from the selling process.
The purpose was to build an engine that consistently created and advanced sales opportunities …
… Even when I wasn’t personally pushing every prospect forward.
Automation could deliver the information.
It could schedule the meeting.
It could send the reminder.
It could identify the next action.
But people would still build the relationship.
The system handled the routine steps …
… So, the salesperson could focus on serving the prospect.
That’s the purpose of Phase 2: Lead Generation Independent of You™.
The 4 Steps That Make Lead Generation Independent of You Possible
The next four steps show you how to identify the prospects you most want to serve ...
... Reach them through multiple channels ...
... Manage every follow-up action ...
... And help qualified prospects raise their hands and schedule the next conversation.

Step 5: 100 Dream Prospect System™
Create a focused list of the 100 Bullseye Buyers you would most like to know, serve, and eventually turn into customers.

Step 6: Next Generation Prospecting System™
Reach your Dream Prospects through a consistent, multi-channel prospecting process that creates more opportunities for them to see you, hear from you, and respond.

Step 7: Prime Follow-Up Operating System™
Give every qualified prospect a clear stage, next action, and follow-up path so valuable opportunities don’t disappear.

Step 8: Prime Selling System Funnel™
Use a funnel to deliver your Consumer’s Guide, schedule the Free Orientation, send reminders, and help interested prospects advance through the selling process.
What Happens When All 4 Steps Work Together
When all four steps are in place …
… Your lead generation has a clear focus.
You know exactly which prospects deserve your attention.
You have several reliable ways to reach them.
Every interested prospect has a clear next action.
And routine steps continue moving forward without requiring your personal involvement.
You’re no longer trying to contact as many random people as possible.
You’re building relationships with a focused group of qualified prospects.
You’re giving them useful reasons to respond.
And you’re creating a system that helps those relationships advance over time.
The result isn’t merely more leads.
It’s a predictable engine for creating and advancing qualified sales opportunities …
… Independent of you.
Begin With the People You Most Want to Serve
Before you decide which channels to use …
… Or how often to follow up …
… You must decide who deserves your limited time and attention.
You don’t need to prospect everyone forever.
You need a focused group of people who fit your Bullseye Buyer Blueprint™ …
… Can purchase your Prime Offer™ …
… Value your expertise …
… And are people you would genuinely enjoy serving.
That leads to Step 5 …
… The 100 Dream Prospect System™.
STEP 5: 100 DREAM PROSPECT SYSTEM™
Turn Endless Prospecting
Into a Focused Sales Pipeline

Phase 2: Lead Generation Independent of You™ begins with focus.
Before you decide which prospecting channels to use …
… You need to decide which prospects deserve your time and attention.
Your Bullseye Buyer Blueprint™ defines the type of person or business That’s most likely to need, value, and purchase your Prime Offer™.
But a Bullseye Buyer is still a profile.
The 100 Dream Prospect System™ turns that profile into a working list of actual people and businesses you would like to serve.
Without that list …
… Prospecting can quickly become another numbers game.
You search for more names.
Start more conversations.
And spend more time chasing people you know very little about.
The goal isn’t to prospect everyone forever.
The goal is to identify the right people …
… Build meaningful relationships with them …
… And create a pipeline filled with prospects you would genuinely like to turn into customers.
That’s why the 100 Dream Prospect System™ is the first step in Phase 2.
The Neighborhood That Taught Me to Stop Prospecting Everyone

I first discovered the idea behind the 100 Dream Prospect System™ when I started working in sales.
At the time …
… I was selling insurance door to door.
My sales manager would drive us to a neighborhood, drop me off, and say:
“I’ll be back in a few hours.”
He would work another neighborhood …
… While I walked from house to house, knocking on doors.
Our strategy was based almost entirely on activity.
Knock on as many doors as possible.
Talk to as many people as possible.
Keep moving until someone buys.
All that activity certainly had value.
It taught me how to approach strangers.
Start conversations.
Handle rejection.
And keep going.
But it also created a problem.
More People Meant Less Time With Each Person
When you’re always trying to meet more people …
… You rarely have enough time to get to know anyone.
You might have a promising conversation with someone today …
… But tomorrow, you’re dropped into another neighborhood, knocking on another hundred doors.
You stay busy.
You generate activity.
But you don’t develop many meaningful relationships.
And without those relationships …
… It becomes difficult to follow up consistently and create predictable sales.
Every day starts from zero.
New neighborhood.
New doors.
New people.
New conversations.
The activity continues …
… But very little compounds.
Certain Prospects Were Different
After working the neighborhoods for a while …
… I started noticing something.
Certain people were much more approachable than others.
They might not buy the first time I met them …
… But they were happy to see me when I returned.
They invited me into conversation.
They would ask questions.
They were interested in what I had to say.
Some had the financial ability to buy.
Some clearly valued what I offered.
Most importantly …
… I enjoyed talking with them …
… And they appeared to enjoy talking with me.
Those relationships felt different.
I wasn’t simply knocking on another door.
I was continuing a conversation with someone receptive to building a relationship.
A Dream Prospect Is More Than a Profile
That taught me something most ideal-customer exercises overlook.
A great prospect isn’t merely someone who meets your financial and demographic qualifications.
Those factors matter.
They’re part of identifying your Bullseye Buyer.
But your Dream Prospects should also be people you genuinely want to know and serve.
They should be people who:
Value your expertise.
Respect your time.
Welcome your conversations.
Show genuine interest.
And are enjoyable to be around.
After all …
… If they become customers, you could be working with them for months or even years.
Why build a business filled with people you don’t enjoy?
Who Would You Most Like to Serve?
Think about the people currently inside your pipeline.
If they all became customers tomorrow …
… Would you be excited to work with them?
Or are you pursuing some of them simply because they might buy?
Scroll down and type DREAM or ANYONE in the comments.
I Couldn’t Build Relationships With Everyone
I also realized that I couldn’t build deep relationships with everyone in the neighborhood.
There were too many people …
… And only so many hours in the day.
I needed to identify the best prospects …
… And concentrate my time and attention on them.
So, instead of treating every door equally …
… I began focusing on the people who had the strongest potential.
They fit the ideal customer profile.
They could buy.
They valued what I offered.
They were receptive to my visits.
And we enjoyed interacting with each other.
Those became my Dream Prospects.
Prospecting Changed When I
Focused on the Right People
Once I began focusing on a smaller group of the right people …
… The nature of prospecting changed.
I wasn’t starting from zero every day.
I could return to previous conversations.
I could learn more about each person.
I could answer their questions.
Build trust.
And develop the relationship over time.
Each conversation gave the next one a place to start.
The relationship grew stronger.
The prospect became more familiar with me.
And I gained a better understanding of whether they would become a great customer.
Prospecting stopped feeling like an endless search for strangers …
… And started becoming the intentional development of valuable relationships.
Why Build a List of 100?
Eventually …
… I turned this idea into a working list of 100 Dream Prospects.
The number created focus.
It was large enough to give me meaningful opportunities.
But focused enough to manage as a real relationship pipeline.
Instead of adding names forever …
… I could concentrate on developing the people already on the list.
I could see who was engaged.
Who needed more information.
Who was moving closer to a decision.
And who no longer deserved continued time and attention.
The list wasn’t simply a database of names.
It was a working group of relationships I wanted to develop.
A Full List Turns Prospecting Into Maintenance
In the beginning …
… Filling the list required a lot of prospecting.
I still had to knock on doors.
Meet people.
Start conversations.
And determine who belonged on it.
But once the list was full …
… Prospecting became more of a maintenance activity.
Imagine working your Dream 100 for a month and converting ten of those prospects into customers.
You don’t need to find another 100 people.
You only need ten qualified prospects to replace the ten who became customers.
That changes how you spend your time.
Instead of continually rebuilding the entire pipeline …
… You maintain it.
You deepen the relationships that are already developing.
And you replace prospects only as they become customers …
… Or demonstrate that they’re no longer a good fit.
Spend More Time Developing
and Less Time Searching
Once the list is established …
… Most of your time can be invested in people who are already serious possibilities.
Instead of spending all your time searching for strangers …
… You might spend 90 percent of your time nurturing relationships with your best prospects …
… And only 10 percent replenishing the list.
The system becomes easier to manage.
Your follow-up becomes more consistent.
Your relationships become stronger.
And your sales become more predictable.
The goal isn’t to eliminate prospecting.
The goal is to stop rebuilding your pipeline from zero every day.
A Dream Prospect List Makes
Follow-Up More Valuable
Following up with 100 carefully selected Dream Prospects is different from following up with 100 random names.
You understand why each person belongs on the list.
You know what makes them a strong potential customer.
You have a reason for continuing the relationship.
And each interaction can build on the last.
That makes follow-up more relevant.
More personal.
And more valuable to both sides.
You’re not simply asking:
“Are you ready to buy yet?”
You’re learning about the prospect.
Sharing useful information.
Answering questions.
And helping them move toward a result they already want.
More Names Can Create More Waste
Many owner-operators believe the solution to a weak pipeline is a larger list.
They tell themselves:
“I need more leads.
“I need more contacts.
“I need to talk to more people.”
So, they keep adding names.
But a larger list doesn’t automatically create a stronger pipeline.
It may simply create:
· More people to contact.
· More conversations to remember.
· More follow-up to manage.
· And more opportunities to waste time on people who were never likely to become great customers.
The value of your pipeline isn’t determined only by the number of names inside it.
The quality of the prospects determines it …
… And the strength of the relationships you build with them.
Proof:
The Client Who Had the Right System but the Wrong Prospects

One of my clients once told me that prospecting had started to feel like a grind.
They were putting in the work.
They were reaching out to people.
Following up.
And trying to keep the pipeline full.
But they weren’t getting enough in return for all that effort.
“I just don’t have enough time to prospect,” they told me.
“We’re grinding and grinding …
“… But we’re not getting as much out of it as we should.”
I understood the frustration.
Prospecting can require a lot of time in the beginning because you have to fill the pipeline.
But once that pipeline is established …
… You shouldn’t have to keep spending most of your time searching for new people.
You should gradually spend less time finding prospects …
… And more time developing relationships with the best prospects already in front of you.
That wasn’t happening for this client.
They Were Still Playing the Numbers Game
The client was still treating prospecting like an endless numbers game.
They kept finding more people.
Having more conversations.
And generating more activity …
… But they weren’t being selective enough about who deserved their time.
I told them:
“The reason this feels like such a grind is that you’re spinning your wheels.
“You’re doing what I did when I first started selling insurance.
“You’re staying busy …
“… But you’re spreading your attention across too many people.”
The client already understood the mechanics of the Prime Selling System™.
They understood the Bullseye Buyer Blueprint™.
They understood their Prime Offer™.
They had their manifesto content, Consumer’s Guide, and Prime Seller System™.
The system itself wasn’t the problem.
The problem was that they weren’t always putting the right people through it.
Bullseye Buyers and Dream Prospects
Aren’t the Same
There is an important difference between a Bullseye Buyer and a Dream Prospect.
A Bullseye Buyer may look ideal on paper.
They have the right business, income, problem, or buying criteria.
From a technical standpoint …
… They appear to be a strong potential customer.
But a Dream Prospect goes further.
A Dream Prospect fits the buying criteria …
… And is someone with whom you can build a genuine relationship.
They respond when you contact them.
They’re receptive to your ideas.
They ask questions.
They value your expertise.
They show an interest in you as a person …
… Not merely in what you’re trying to sell them.
And they’re someone you would actually enjoy serving if they became a customer.
The Bullseye Buyer fits the profile.
The Dream Prospect fits the profile and the relationship.
Stop Giving the Same Amount of Time to Everyone
I encouraged my client to review the people in their pipeline …
… And become far more selective.
“Stop giving the same amount of time to everyone,” I told them.
“Identify the people who are engaged, receptive, and enjoyable to work with.
“Then make a concerted effort over the next 30 days …
“… To follow up with those people.”
That didn’t mean bombarding them with sales messages.
It meant being human.
Reach out.
Continue the conversation.
Make sure they understand what you do.
Answer their questions.
Learn more about what they’re trying to accomplish.
Build the relationship.
At the same time …
… I told the client to stop investing so much energy in people who continually pushed back …
… Ignored their calls …
… Showed little interest …
… Or appeared likely to become difficult customers.
Just because someone could buy …
… Didn’t mean they deserved unlimited time and attention.
The Result:
Focused Relationships Produced More Sales
Once the client understood that distinction …
… They went back to the drawing board.
They reviewed their pipeline.
And they began focusing on the prospects who showed the strongest combination of:
Qualification.
Engagement.
Mutual respect.
And relationship potential.
The difference became clear.
Instead of endlessly chasing people who didn’t value their time …
… They concentrated on prospects who were genuinely interested.
Their follow-up became more focused.
Their relationships became stronger.
They used their time more efficiently.
And they began closing far more deals.
The client didn’t need another prospecting tactic.
They didn’t need to work longer hours.
They didn’t need more names in the pipeline.
They needed to make sure the right people were moving through the system.
That’s the difference between a Bullseye Buyer and a Dream Prospect.
The Bullseye Buyer looks right on paper.
The Dream Prospect looks right on paper …
… And becomes someone with whom you can build a real relationship.
The strength of your sales system matters.
But the system becomes far more powerful when you reserve your time, attention, and follow-up …
… For the people you would most like to turn into customers.

Your Dream Prospects Need More
Than One Way to Hear From You
Your 100 Dream Prospect System™ gives your lead generation a clear focus.
You know which people and businesses deserve your attention.
You know why you want to serve them.
And you have a manageable list of relationships to develop over time.
But identifying your Dream Prospects doesn’t guarantee they’ll respond through a single channel.
Some may answer a telephone call.
Others may respond to a direct message.
Some may notice you after receiving information.
Others may meet you through networking or an event.
You need several reliable ways to begin and continue those conversations.
That leads to Step 6 …
… The Next Generation Prospecting System™.
STEP 6: NEXT GENERATION PROSPECTING SYSTEM™
Turn Five Prospecting Channels Into
One Lead Generation Engine

Your 100 Dream Prospect System™ gives your lead generation a clear focus.
You know which people and businesses you most want to serve.
You know why they belong in your pipeline.
And you know where to invest your limited time and attention.
But identifying your Dream Prospects doesn’t guarantee they’ll respond through a single channel.
Some may answer a telephone call.
Others may respond to a direct message.
Some may notice the information you leave behind.
Others may meet you through networking, a lunch-and-learn, or another educational event.
If your entire prospecting strategy depends on one channel …
… Your results depend on that channel continuing to work.
The Next Generation Prospecting System™ gives you several reliable ways to reach your Dream Prospects …
… While directing every interested person into the same repeatable sales process.
That’s why it comes next.
The $9,000 Month That Started
Three Months Earlier

I still remember one of the first truly big months I had in sales.
That month …
… I earned more than $9,000 in commissions.
Before then, I had consistently earned approximately $6,000 or $7,000 per month.
Those were good months.
But earning more than $9,000 put me within reach of my first $10,000 month.
What made the result even more surprising was that it happened in December.
December was usually when consultants started slowing down.
People took vacations.
They postponed meetings.
And they told themselves they would get serious again after the holidays.
But while many people were winding down …
… I had one of my biggest months up to that point.
I Wanted to Know Why It Happened
I was excited about the income.
But I was even more interested in understanding why it had happened.
I didn’t want one exceptional month that I couldn’t explain.
I wanted to know how to repeat it.
So, I sat down and reviewed everything I had done.
Which activities had produced the sales?
Where had the customers come from?
What had I done differently that month?
That was when I realized something important:
December hadn’t created my $9,000 month.
The three months before December had created it.
Five Channels Had Been Working Together
For the previous three months …
… I had consistently generated prospects through five different channels.
I had gone door to door.
I had followed up by telephone.
I had used direct messages on social media.
I had attended networking events.
And I had conducted lunch-and-learns and other small seminars.
No single channel produced every customer.
Some worked better than others.
And the results certainly weren’t divided evenly among the five.
But when I reviewed the entire period …
… I could see that all five channels had contributed to the final result.
If I had relied on only one of them …
… I might have earned half as much.
Or perhaps only a quarter as much.
The $9,000 month happened because all five channels worked together consistently.

Door-to-Door Prospecting
Was My Bread and Butter
At the time …
… Door-to-door prospecting was my bread and butter.
It was my primary method for entering a market …
… Meeting people …
… And starting conversations.
But door-to-door prospecting gave me something beyond leads.
It gave me immediate market research.
I could speak directly with prospective customers.
I could hear their questions.
Observe their reactions.
And learn which messages created interest.
I could quickly discover what people cared about …
… And what they ignored.
That information helped me improve every other part of the selling process.
I still recommend door-to-door prospecting when it fits the business …
… Especially at the beginning.
You may not need to do it forever.
But going directly into the market can teach you more about your prospects …
… Than sitting behind a desk and guessing what they want.
The Telephone Continued the Conversation
Telephone prospecting worked alongside door-to-door prospecting.
If I visited a business and couldn’t reach the right person …
… I could leave information and follow up by telephone.
That meant the call didn’t always have to begin from zero.
The prospect may have seen my information.
Someone inside the business may have mentioned my visit.
Or I could reference the message I had already introduced.
The telephone wasn’t a completely separate strategy.
It allowed me to continue a conversation that had started …
… Or almost started …
… At the door.
Direct Messages Created
Another Point of Contact
Direct messages gave me another way to reach prospects through social media.
Some people who wouldn’t answer an unfamiliar telephone call …
… Would respond to a message.
Others might see my name several times before deciding to engage.
The direct message created another opportunity for the right prospect to recognize me …
… Understand why I was reaching out …
… And begin a conversation.
Networking Created Personal Relationships
Networking events allowed me to meet prospects and referral partners in a more personal environment.
I wasn’t interrupting their day with an unexpected call.
We were already in a place designed for introductions and conversations.
I could learn about their business.
They could learn about mine.
And the relationship could begin before either of us discussed a sale.
Even when the person I met wasn’t a Bullseye Buyer …
… They might know someone who was.
That made networking valuable for generating both prospects and referrals.
Seminars Allowed Me to
Educate Several People at Once
Lunch-and-learns, seminars, and other small events allowed me to educate several people at once.
Instead of explaining the same ideas one person at a time …
… I could present them to a group.
I could demonstrate my knowledge.
Answer questions.
And establish greater authority.
Attendees could experience my approach before deciding whether they wanted a private conversation.
That made the event more than a prospecting activity.
It became an educational bridge into the Prime Seller System™.
Next Generation Doesn’t Mean
Abandoning What Already Works
Some people hear “next generation” and assume it means replacing telephone calls, personal visits, or networking with the newest technology.
That isn’t the point.
The newest channel isn’t automatically the best channel.
And an older channel doesn’t stop working simply because a new one appears.
Next-generation prospecting means bringing personal, traditional, and digital channels together …
… So, they support one another.
A visit can introduce the message.
A telephone call can continue it.
A direct message can reinforce it.
Networking can strengthen the relationship.
And a seminar can provide education and authority.
Each channel opens a different door.
But they all lead to the same place.
Five Channels Must Lead Into One Sales Process
That distinction was critical.
I wasn’t running five unrelated sales systems.
I was using five prospecting channels to identify potential customers …
… And move them into one consistent process.
Whether someone met me at their door …
… Spoke with me on the telephone …
… Responded to a direct message …
… Encountered me at a networking event …
… Or attended a lunch-and-learn …
… The next steps remained consistent.
They entered the same pipeline.
They received the same message.
They were offered the same Consumer’s Guide.
They received the same follow-up.
And they were guided through the same Prime Seller System™.
That consistency let the five channels work together as one lead-generation engine.
Consistent Activity Created the Breakthrough
The income appeared in December.
But the work that produced it had been accumulating for three months.
Door by door.
Call by call.
Message by message.
Conversation by conversation.
Event by event.
Some prospects responded immediately.
Others needed to hear from me several times.
Some encountered me through one channel …
… And responded through another.
Each interaction helped create familiarity.
Each channel created another opportunity to begin or continue the relationship.
And over time …
… Those activities produced one of the biggest sales months I had ever experienced.
The breakthrough didn’t come from one extraordinary day.
It didn’t come from one lucky sale.
And it didn’t come from discovering one perfect prospecting tactic.
It came from using five channels consistently …
… And directing every interested prospect into one repeatable sales process.
Five channels.
One system.
And three months of consistent activity.
Every Salesperson Needs a Mini Marketing System
That experience also changed how I thought about a salesperson’s responsibility for generating leads.
One of the most common complaints salespeople make is:
“I’m not getting enough leads.”
Sometimes that complaint is justified.
The company may need stronger advertising.
Better lead generation.
And more opportunities entering the pipeline.
But a salesperson shouldn’t have to depend entirely on the company to place every opportunity in front of them.
These five channels give each salesperson a mini marketing system.
They can go into the market.
Start conversations.
Build relationships.
Educate prospects.
And create opportunities …
… Without waiting for someone else to generate every lead.
That creates a more capable salesperson.
A more resourceful salesperson.
And a salesperson who can contribute to pipeline growth…
… Instead of only waiting for opportunities to appear.
Don’t Search for One Perfect Channel
Many businesses keep searching for the one prospecting channel that will solve everything.
They try telephone prospecting for a few weeks.
Then they stop and move to social media.
They attend two networking events.
Then they decide networking doesn’t work.
They hold one seminar.
And when it doesn’t immediately fill the pipeline …
… They abandon that too.
Each activity is expected to produce the entire result on its own.
But prospecting rarely works that way.
One channel may introduce the prospect.
Another may create familiarity.
A third may provide the information that causes them to respond.
And a fourth may create the opportunity for a real conversation.
You may never know which individual interaction deserves all the credit …
… Because the channels influenced the prospect together.
Begin Broadly and Then Strengthen What Works
When someone is first entering a market …
… I recommend testing all five channels where they reasonably apply.
The purpose isn’t to do everything forever.
The purpose is to create momentum.
Learn from the market.
And discover which combination of channels works best.
Over time …
… The salesperson or business can place more emphasis on the strongest channels.
If networking consistently creates valuable relationships …
… Do more networking.
If seminars generate qualified appointments …
… Conduct more seminars.
If direct messages start meaningful conversations …
… Strengthen that process.
But avoid becoming entirely dependent on one source for prospects.
Markets change.
Platforms change.
Response rates change.
And a channel that works well today may become less effective tomorrow.
A multi-channel system gives your pipeline greater stability.
Proof:
The Telecommunications Client Who
Pretended to Send the Mailer

I once worked with a successful telecommunications business owner who wanted to generate more leads.
He was intelligent.
Technically skilled.
And already doing well.
But his prospecting was inconsistent.
Like many business owners and salespeople …
… He relied heavily on cold calling.
At one point, he tried combining direct mail with telephone prospecting.
He would send a mailer to a prospective customer …
… And then call to follow up.
The problem was that most of the people he called either hadn’t seen the mailer …
… Or didn’t remember receiving it.
He would begin the conversation by saying:
“I’m calling to follow up on the information I sent you.”
The prospect would say they never received it …
… Use that as a reason to end the conversation …
… And hang up.
He Found a Shortcut
After going through this enough times …
… My client found a shortcut.
He stopped sending the mailers.
He would call prospects …
… And tell them he had sent something.
Since most people couldn’t remember whether they had received the original mailer anyway …
… He figured there was no point in paying to send it.
It was a funny story.
But it exposed a much larger problem.
He viewed the mailer as an excuse to make a sales call …
… Rather than as an important part of the sales process.
He was trying to skip the marketing …
… And go directly to the sale.
The Message Should Do the Heavy Lifting
I explained that the message should do the heavy lifting.
Marketing uses that message to create awareness.
Build interest.
Educate the prospect.
And increase their desire for the solution.
Sales then provides the leadership necessary to help the prospect move forward …
… And accomplish what they already want to achieve.
Marketing creates the desire.
Sales provides the follow-through.
When those two functions are disconnected …
… Salespeople are forced to start every conversation from zero.
They have to explain who they are.
What they do.
Why it matters.
And why the prospect should listen …
… All during an unexpected telephone call.
That makes the salesperson’s job far more difficult than it needs to be.
The Solution Wasn’t Simply to
Send the Mailer Again
The solution wasn’t simply to resume sending mailers.
It was to build a coordinated prospecting system …
… In which multiple channels carried a consistent message …
… And led prospects into one sales process.
We began with door-to-door prospecting.
But instead of treating it as nothing more than knocking on doors and hoping someone would speak with us …
… We turned it into a flyer-distribution system.
The flyer allowed us to introduce the message …
… Even when the decision-maker wasn’t available.
Telephone prospecting then gave us a second channel for following up on that same message.
The call didn’t need to carry the entire burden.
It could continue a conversation that had already begun through the flyer.
Direct messages provided another way to introduce and reinforce the message through social media.
Networking allowed my client to meet prospects and referral partners in a personal environment.
And lunch-and-learns and other small seminars allowed him to educate several prospects at once …
… While building authority.
Each Channel Had a Different Job
These weren’t five unrelated strategies.
They were five channels carrying one consistent message into one sales process.
The flyer introduced the idea.
The telephone call continued it.
The direct message reinforced it.
Networking created the relationship.
And the seminar provided education and authority.
Each channel played a different role.
But they all moved the prospect toward the same next step.
Once my client understood that …
… He had a light-bulb moment.
He no longer viewed marketing and sales as separate activities.
He saw them as parts of one integrated system.
Marketing Prepares the Prospect for Sales
Marketing wasn’t merely meant to produce a name and telephone number for a salesperson.
It was to prepare the prospect for the sales conversation.
Sales wasn’t meant to pressure an uninterested person into buying.
It was to lead an interested prospect toward the result they wanted.
That shift changed how my client approached prospecting.
Instead of depending on random cold calls …
… And searching for a single tactic that would produce every lead …
… He began using multiple channels to support one another.
He didn’t need one activity to generate a hundred customers.
He needed a collection of consistent activities that worked together to generate them.
The Result:
Random Activities Became a Coordinated System
The five-channel approach gave my client a miniature marketing system he could control.
He didn’t have to sit around complaining that the company hadn’t given him enough leads.
He could introduce his message through several channels.
Follow up through different forms of media.
Develop familiarity over time.
And lead every interested prospect into the same repeatable sales process.
Prospecting stopped being a collection of random activities.
It became a coordinated system.
Five channels.
One message.
One sales process.

More Conversations:
Create a New Follow-Up Problem
Your 100 Dream Prospect System™ identifies the people you most want to serve.
Your Next Generation Prospecting System™ gives you five reliable channels for reaching them.
Those channels create more conversations.
More responses.
And more qualified opportunities.
But every new opportunity creates another responsibility.
Someone must remember what happened.
Someone must know where the prospect stands.
Someone must determine the next action.
And someone must make sure the follow-up actually happens.
Without a clear operating system …
… Prospects can receive the Consumer’s Guide and never hear from you again.
Promising conversations can disappear.
Salespeople can forget what they promised.
And valuable opportunities can slip through the cracks.
Generating the opportunity isn’t enough.
You also need a system that ensures every qualified prospect keeps moving forward.
That leads to Step 7 …
… The Prime Follow-Up Operating System™.
STEP 7: PRIME FOLLOW-UP OPERATING SYSTEM™
Why More Opportunities Require
a Better Follow-Up System

Your 100 Dream Prospect System™ identifies the people you most want to serve.
Your Next Generation Prospecting System™ gives you five reliable channels for reaching them.
Those channels create conversations.
They generate interest.
And they move more qualified prospects into your pipeline.
But creating the opportunity is only the beginning.
One prospect may need to receive your Consumer’s Guide.
Another may need a telephone call.
Someone else may need an invitation to the Free Orientation.
Another prospect may have expressed interest …
… But hasn’t scheduled the appointment.
If you try to manage every conversation, promise, and next action from memory …
… Qualified prospects will eventually fall through the cracks.
That’s why the Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ comes next.
I Thought Better Follow-Up Required a Better CRM

Like many owner-operators and salespeople …
… I assumed better follow-up required a better customer relationship management system.
At first, I used a relatively simple process.
I organized prospects in Outlook …
… And color-coded the contacts so I could keep track of them.
I also worked with clients who invested in expensive, highly sophisticated CRMs.
These systems promised to organize every contact.
Track every opportunity.
And make the sales process easier to manage.
But they often created another problem.
The Technology Became Another Job
Some CRM systems took months …
… Or sometimes even a year …
… To understand and master.
They had to be configured.
Customized.
Maintained.
And continually updated.
Instead of spending their time following up with prospects …
… People became trapped in the technology grind.
They were learning the software.
Building complicated automations.
Creating fields.
Updating reports.
And trying to force their sales process to fit the system.
After all that work …
… The most important question often remained unanswered:
Where is each prospect in the sales process …
… And what needs to happen next?
Contact Information Doesn’t Create Follow-Up
A CRM can tell you a prospect’s name.
Their telephone number.
Their email address.
And perhaps the last time someone contacted them.
That information is useful.
But storing contact information isn’t the same as managing follow-up.
The system must also show you:
Where the prospect stands.
What has already happened.
What needs to happen next.
Who is responsible for making it happen.
And when that action should be completed.
Without those answers …
… The prospect is simply another name inside a database.
“Follow Up More” Isn’t a System
Most people know that poor follow-up costs businesses sales.
So, the advice they receive is usually simple:
“Follow up more.”
“Be persistent.
“Don’t let the prospect forget about you.”
But telling someone to follow up more doesn’t create a follow-up process.
Proper follow-up can require a dozen or more touchpoints …
… Spread across several weeks or months.
And every prospect may be at a different point in the process.
One may need the Consumer’s Guide.
Another may need a telephone call.
Someone else may need an invitation to the Free Orientation.
Another person may have attended the orientation …
… But still needs to schedule a Free Strategy Session.
The salesperson must remember every conversation.
Every commitment.
Every unanswered message.
And every next step.
That gets harder as the pipeline grows.

Every Prospect Creates a Small Project
I kept thinking there had to be a better way.
Then one day …
… While working through my tasks in Asana …
… I had an epiphany.
I had been thinking about lead management the wrong way.
A lead wasn’t simply a contact stored inside a database.
Each lead was its own project.
Every prospect entered the process at a specific point.
Certain actions had already been completed.
Other actions still needed to happen.
The prospect also needed to move through a defined series of stages before buying.
That meant I didn’t need to think only in terms of customer relationship management.
I needed to think in terms of project management.
I Built the Follow-Up Process Inside Asana
I began building my follow-up process inside Asana.
I created a visual board that worked like an assembly line.
Each prospect occupied a specific position inside the process.
As the relationship advanced …
… I could move the prospect from one stage to the next.
I could see exactly where they were.
What had already happened.
And what needed to happen before they could move forward.
Instead of opening individual contact records and searching for clues …
… I could see the entire pipeline in front of me.
The process became visible.
Think of Your Pipeline as an Assembly Line
On an assembly line …
… Every item moves through the same defined process.
You can see where each item is.
You know which steps are already complete.
And you know what must happen before it advances to the next stage.
Your sales pipeline should work the same way.
A Dream Prospect enters the system.
They receive the appropriate information.
They’re invited to the next step.
Their response is recorded.
And the salesperson knows exactly what action must happen next.
The prospect continues moving until they schedule the Free Orientation …
… Decline the invitation …
… Or demonstrate that they’re no longer qualified.
Every prospect has a position.
Every position has a purpose.
And every stage has a defined next action.
The Breakthrough Wasn’t Asana
Asana was simply the tool I chose.
A business could use Trello.
Another project-management platform.
Or even a CRM configured around the same process.
The breakthrough wasn’t the software.
The breakthrough was the underlying idea:
Follow-up should be managed as a repeatable project.
The technology should make the process easier to see and follow.
It shouldn’t become the process itself.
A simple tool built around a clear process can be extremely effective.
A sophisticated tool without a clear process …
… Gives you a more expensive place to remain disorganized.
Customize the Tool Around the Way You Sell
A rigid CRM may force salespeople to adapt to stages that don’t reflect how the business actually sells.
That creates unnecessary complexity.
The Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ begins with your process.
What should happen when you identify a Dream Prospect?
How will you introduce the Consumer’s Guide?
When should someone receive a telephone call?
When should they be invited to the Free Orientation?
What happens if they don’t respond?
How long should they remain in active follow-up?
What determines whether they advance, decline, or become disqualified?
Once those questions are answered …
… You can build the tool around the process.
The operating system can be as simple or as detailed as necessary.
But every stage should help the salesperson understand what to do next.
Results Are Produced by Behavior
Most sales systems focus on tracking results.
The number of leads.
Appointments.
Presentations.
Proposals.
And sales.
Those numbers are important.
They tell you what happened.
But results are produced by behavior.
Telephone calls create conversations.
Consumer Guides create education.
Invitations create appointments.
Reminders increase attendance.
And consistent follow-up keeps qualified opportunities moving.
If you track only the final result …
… You may know that sales are down.
But you may not know which necessary behaviors stopped happening.
The Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ helps you track and reinforce the behaviors that drive results.
Every Stage Should Make the Next Behavior Clear
Instead of merely recording whether a sale happened …
… The system makes sure every necessary follow-up action happens along the way.
If a prospect hasn’t received the Consumer’s Guide …
… The next action is clear.
If they received the guide but haven’t been invited to the Free Orientation …
… The next action is clear.
If they were invited but haven’t responded …
… The next action is clear.
If they scheduled the orientation …
… The prospect can advance into the next stage of the Prime Seller System™.
Nobody has to guess.
Nobody has to improvise.
And nobody has to search through old emails to remember what happened.
The stage tells you where the prospect stands.
The next action tells you what to do.
The System Keeps Prospects From Disappearing
Without a visible follow-up process …
… Prospects often disappear for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the offer.
The salesperson becomes busy.
A message goes unanswered.
A promised telephone call is forgotten.
A note gets buried.
Or everyone assumes someone else is handling the opportunity.
The prospect may still be interested.
They may still be qualified.
And they may still need the solution.
But the business loses the opportunity …
… Because nobody completed the next action.
The Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ prevents that unnecessary loss.
Every prospect remains visible.
Every next action remains attached to the opportunity.
And every qualified prospect stays inside the system until a clear outcome is reached.
A Complicated CRM Can Hide a Broken Process
Many owner-operators believe sophisticated software will automatically improve sales performance.
They invest in a CRM with hundreds of features.
They build complicated workflows.
They create reports and dashboards.
And they assume the technology will solve the follow-up problem.
But software can’t create a process that the business hasn’t defined.
If your salespeople don’t know what should happen next …
… Adding more features won’t give them clarity.
If the stages don’t reflect the way you actually sell …
… More automation may move prospects through the wrong process faster.
And if nobody is responsible for the next action …
… A reminder inside a more expensive system is still only a reminder.
The process must come first.
Then the technology can support it.
Simple Enough to Use Is Better
Than Sophisticated Enough to Ignore
The best follow-up system isn’t necessarily the one with the most features.
It’s the one your salespeople will actually use.
They should be able to open the system …
… See their prospects …
… Understand each stage …
… And know what to do next.
The process should reduce confusion.
Not create more of it.
If the system requires months of training before someone can follow up effectively …
… The tool may be getting in the way of the result.
Your operating system should be detailed enough to protect the process …
… But simple enough to become part of the salesperson’s daily work.
Proof:
“That’s Exactly What I Need”

I was meeting one of my best clients for coffee …
… When our conversation turned to his sales process.
He was trying to get everything dialed in.
But like many owner-operators …
… He was struggling to see exactly where every prospect stood …
… And what needed to happen next.
He had prospects.
He had conversations underway.
And he knew follow-up was important.
But the process wasn’t visible.
So, I asked him a question:
“Have you ever considered treating your leads like projects?”
He looked at me and said:
“What do you mean?”
I Asked Him to Imagine an Assembly Line
I told him to imagine an assembly line.
Every item on an assembly line moves through the same defined process.
You can see where each item is.
You can see what has already been completed.
And you know what needs to happen …
… Before it advances to the next stage.
“That’s how I think about lead management,” I explained.
“Instead of treating each lead as another contact inside a database …
“… I treat each one as an individual project that must be guided through a repeatable process.”
Then I opened my laptop …
… And showed him the board I had built in Asana.
He Could See the Entire Pipeline
My prospects were organized visually across the entire pipeline.
Each lead occupied a specific stage.
And every stage indicated what needed to happen next.
He could see the process immediately.
This prospect needed additional follow-up.
That prospect needed information.
Another was moving closer to scheduling an appointment.
The sales process was no longer hidden inside notes, contact records, and someone’s memory.
It was sitting in front of him.
His jaw practically dropped.
“Oh my gosh,” he said.
“That’s exactly what I need.”
He Built His Own System in Less Than a Week
I didn’t think much more about the conversation after we left the coffee shop.
About a week later …
… We met again.
“Eric,” he said, “after our last conversation, I went back to the drawing board.
“Guess what I did?”
Then he showed me the pipeline he had built.
In less than a week …
… He had taken the basic concept …
… And organized his prospects into a visual sales process.
He could immediately see who was in an active conversation.
Who required additional follow-up.
And who was getting close to making a decision.
“Wow, Eric,” he told me.
“This changed the game for me.”
Organization Was Only the Beginning
What made the system so valuable wasn’t simply that his leads were more organized.
He could now see the details behind the follow-up process.
Every prospect had a defined position.
A clear next action.
And a visible path forward.
Instead of asking:
“Who should I follow up with today?”
He could open the system and see the answer.
Instead of wondering:
“What did we promise this prospect?”
He could see what had already been completed.
And instead of allowing promising opportunities to disappear …
… He could keep each qualified prospect moving toward a clear decision.
Visibility Created Accountability
The system also created accountability.
My client could hold himself accountable for completing the necessary follow-up activities.
As his team became involved …
… He could assign responsibilities.
He could see who owned the next action.
He could confirm that it had been completed.
And he could make sure everyone followed the same standardized process.
Nothing had to depend on memory.
Nothing had to be improvised.
And there was far less opportunity for a qualified prospect to disappear …
… Simply because someone forgot the next step.
The Business Could Now Manage the Process
Before the system …
… Follow-up depended on the owner remembering what needed to happen.
After the system …
… The process itself showed everyone what needed to happen.
That’s an important step toward lead generation independent of you.
A salesperson can enter the system …
… See their responsibilities …
… And complete the same follow-up process the owner would have completed.
A manager can see whether the work is being done.
The owner can step away without losing visibility.
And the business no longer has to rely on one person to carry the entire pipeline in their head.
The Result:
Follow-Up Became Visible,

A Visible Next Action Still Has to Be Completed
Your 100 Dream Prospect System™ identifies the prospects you most want to serve.
Your Next Generation Prospecting System™ gives you several reliable ways to reach them.
And your Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ shows you exactly where each prospect stands …
… And what needs to happen next.
But many of those next actions still require someone to complete them manually.
Someone must deliver the Consumer’s Guide.
Send the scheduling link.
Confirm the Free Orientation.
And remind the prospect to attend.
The operating system makes those actions visible.
But what if the routine actions could happen automatically?
What if an interested prospect could request the guide …
… Receive it immediately …
… Schedule the Free Orientation …
… And receive the appropriate reminders …
… Without waiting for you or a salesperson to make each step happen?
That leads to Step 8 …
… The Prime Selling System Funnel™.
STEP 8: PRIME SELLING SYSTEM FUNNEL™
Turn Manual Sales Administration Into an Automated Prospect Journey

Your Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ shows you where every prospect stands.
You can see what has already happened.
What needs to happen next.
And who is responsible for completing it.
But many of those next actions may still require manual completion.
Someone must locate and deliver the Consumer’s Guide.
Send the scheduling link.
Confirm the Free Orientation.
Remind the prospect to attend.
Collect the information needed for the Free Strategy Session.
Continue following up when the prospect doesn’t respond immediately.
The operating system makes these actions visible.
But the Prime Selling System Funnel™ allows many of them to happen automatically.
That’s why it completes Phase 2: Lead Generation Independent of You™.
Nearly Every Step Required
My Personal Attention

Before I built my Prime Selling System Funnel™ …
… Nearly every part of my appointment process had to be handled manually.
I would contact a prospect …
… Or the prospect would contact me …
… And I would offer them the Free Consumer’s Guide.
Then I would search through my files.
Find the correct PDF.
Attach it to an email.
And send it.
Afterward …
… I would contact the prospect to make sure they received it.
A few days later …
… I would follow up again to see whether they had read the guide …
… And wanted to schedule a Free Orientation.
If they didn’t respond …
… I had to remember to send another email or make another telephone call.
The Process Worked
The process worked.
Prospects received the guide.
Some read it.
Some scheduled the Free Orientation.
And qualified prospects continued moving through the Prime Seller System™.
But as the number of prospects increased …
… So did the number of small administrative tasks competing for my attention.
Search for the file.
Attach the guide.
Write the email.
Send the scheduling link.
Check whether the prospect responded.
Confirm the appointment.
Send the reminder.
Reschedule the meeting.
Follow up again.
None of these tasks seemed particularly difficult by itself.
But together …
… They consumed an enormous amount of time.
Small Tasks Become a Large Capacity Problem
If you’re managing only a few prospects …
… Manual administration may not feel like a serious problem.
But if you’re managing 100 Dream Prospects …
… You can’t afford to search for files, copy and paste the same messages, send individual reminders, and manually coordinate every appointment.
The more successful your prospecting becomes …
… The more administrative work the process creates.
Eventually, the salesperson reaches a limit.
They can prospect.
Or they can do the administrative work prospecting creates.
They can conduct Orientations.
Or they can spend their time coordinating those appointments.
They can have meaningful conversations with qualified buyers.
Or they can copy and paste another reminder.
Small tasks start limiting how many prospects a salesperson can serve.
How Much of Your Sales Process Is Still Manual?
Think about what happens after a prospect expresses interest.
How many repetitive steps must you or someone on your team complete before that person reaches a real sales conversation?
Scroll down and type MANUAL or AUTOMATED in the comments.
I Realized a Funnel Could Handle Repetitive Work
Once I learned how funnels worked …
… I realized that much of this repetitive work could happen automatically.
Instead of searching for the Consumer’s Guide every time someone requested it …
… I could send the prospect to a landing page.
The landing page could explain what the guide would help them understand.
The prospect could enter their information …
… And receive the guide automatically.
The thank-you page could then invite them to schedule a Free Orientation.
Follow-up emails and text messages could remind them to read the guide …
… And book their appointment.
The system could continue advancing the relationship …
… Without requiring me to complete every administrative action manually.
The Funnel Gave Every Prospect a Clear Path
Before the funnel …
… The prospect’s next step depended on me sending the right message at the right time.
After the funnel …
… The path was already built.
Request the Consumer’s Guide.
Receive the guide.
Schedule the Free Orientation.
Attend the Orientation.
Qualify for the Free Strategy Session.
Schedule the Strategy Session.
And continue into the Prime Seller System™.
The prospect didn’t have to wonder what to do next.
The salesperson didn’t have to recreate the process for every new opportunity.
And the business could provide a more consistent experience …
… Regardless of who was managing the relationship.
Qualified Prospects Could Schedule
the Next Conversation
When a prospect completed the Free Orientation …
… And qualified for a Free Strategy Session …
… They could receive another page where they could schedule that appointment directly on my calendar.
There was no need for an endless chain of messages.
“What day works for you?
“Does Tuesday afternoon work?
“What about Thursday morning?
“Can we reschedule?”
The prospect could see the available times …
… Choose the one that worked best …
… And receive an immediate confirmation.
The appointment moved forward without requiring me to coordinate every detail.
Automation Didn’t Replace the Relationship
That didn’t mean automating the entire relationship.
The Free Orientation was still personal.
The Free Strategy Session was still personal.
The diagnosis was personal.
The recommendation was personal.
And the buying decision still required a real conversation.
The funnel wasn’t designed to remove the salesperson from the sales process.
It was designed to remove the repetitive administration surrounding the sales process …
… So, the salesperson could spend more time with prospects.
Automation handled the busy work.
The salesperson handled the personal touch.
The Funnel Should Support the Salesperson
Some businesses attempt to automate every interaction.
They remove the conversations.
Replace personal guidance with generic messages.
And treat every prospect as though they should move through the same automated sequence without human involvement.
That may save time.
But it can also weaken the relationship.
A qualified prospect may need to ask a question.
Explain their situation.
Discuss a concern.
Or understand how the process applies specifically to them.
Those conversations are valuable.
The goal isn’t to eliminate them.
The goal is to eliminate the repetitive work that keeps salespeople from having more of them.
Don’t Automate an Unproven Process
There was also an important sequence to follow.
I didn’t begin by building a complicated funnel around an unproven sales process.
First …
… I developed the sales process.
Then …
… I worked the process manually.
I observed how prospects responded.
I identified the questions they asked.
I learned where they became confused.
And I discovered which actions consistently moved the relationship forward.
Once the process began producing results …
… I used the Prime Follow-Up Operating System™ to identify the repetitive tasks consuming the most time.
Only then did I automate them.
Manual Before Automation
Working the process manually gave me something automation couldn’t provide:
Understanding.
I learned what needed to happen.
In what order.
And why each step mattered.
That allowed me to automate a proven process.
Without that understanding …
… I might have automated the wrong steps.
Sent the wrong message.
Created unnecessary complexity.
Or moved prospects through a process that didn’t produce sales.
Automation multiplies whatever process you give it.
If the process works …
… Automation can increase its capacity.
If the process is broken …
… Automation can help it fail faster.
That’s why the correct sequence is:
First …
… Work the process manually.
Then …
… Automate it.
Finally …
… Delegate it.
A Funnel Isn’t a Substitute for a Sales Process
Many owner-operators begin with the technology.
They purchase funnel software.
Build landing pages.
Create email sequences.
Connect calendars.
And install automations.
But they haven’t clearly defined the process that those tools are supposed to support.
They don’t know whom they want to attract.
They haven’t established the primary offer.
Their message remains unclear.
And they haven’t proven how to guide an interested prospect toward a decision.
The funnel may look impressive.
But technology can’t compensate for an undeveloped sales process.
A funnel isn’t the sales process.
It’s the vehicle that carries a proven sales process forward.
Build the Journey Around the Prospect
A strong Prime Selling System Funnel™ isn’t simply a collection of pages and emails.
It’s a connected prospect journey.
Each step should help the prospect understand:
What they’re receiving.
Why it matters.
What they should do next.
And what will happen after they take that action.
The landing page explains the value of the Consumer’s Guide.
The guide begins the education.
The thank-you page introduces the Free Orientation.
The follow-up messages remind the prospect to continue.
The scheduling page makes taking the next step easy.
And the confirmations prepare the prospect to attend.
Each part supports the next.
The technology becomes almost invisible …
… Because the experience feels natural to the prospect.
The Funnel Increased My Capacity
After I built the funnel …
… My capacity increased significantly.
I no longer had to search for the guide.
Manually deliver it.
Copy and paste the same follow-up messages.
Send individual appointment confirmations.
Or coordinate every meeting through an endless email chain.
The funnel handled those predictable tasks for me.
That gave me more time to prospect.
Conduct appointments.
Answer important questions.
And personally follow up where a human conversation would make the greatest difference.
The funnel didn’t reduce the salesperson's importance.
It allowed the salesperson to spend more time doing the work only a person could do.
The Prospect Also Receives a Better Experience
The funnel didn’t just make the process easier for me.
It made the process easier for the prospect.
They received the Consumer’s Guide immediately.
They didn’t have to wait for someone to locate the file.
They could schedule an appointment at their convenience.
They received confirmations and reminders.
And they always knew what would happen next.
The experience became faster.
Clearer.
And more consistent.
A prospect shouldn’t lose momentum because the business forgot to send something.
They shouldn’t have to chase the salesperson for the next step.
And they shouldn’t become confused because each team member handles the process differently.
The funnel protects the experience …
… By making sure the predictable parts happen consistently.
Proof:
The Landscape Designer Who
Wanted a More Efficient Process

This reminds me of a landscape designer I worked with.
We had already developed her sales process …
… And it was beginning to work.
As the process gained momentum …
… She started thinking about the next problem.
“Eric,” she asked, “How can I make this sales process more efficient?”
At the time …
… She used tools such as Google Calendar to coordinate appointments.
She knew she could purchase a complicated CRM.
But she wasn’t convinced that another piece of software would solve the problem.
And she was right.
Her concern wasn’t simply managing contacts.
Her Sales Required More
Than Scheduling an Appointment
A landscape-design project requires a lot of information …
… Before an accurate proposal can be prepared.
She needed to schedule appointments.
Collect information from prospects.
Receive project documents.
Prepare agreements.
Secure signatures.
Coordinate the start of each new project.
She was making sales.
But facilitating every step created unnecessary work and stress.
Each new customer generated another series of administrative tasks.
And because she personally managed so many of those details …
… Growth increased the pressure on her.
That told me she was ready for the next stage.
Her sales process had been established.
It had been tested.
And it had been validated.
Now we could begin automating the repetitive parts …
… By turning the process into a funnel.
We Began With the Consumer’s Guide
We started with a landing page for her Consumer’s Guide.
When someone requested the guide …
… The system delivered it automatically.
The thank-you page then gave the prospect an immediate opportunity to schedule a Free Orientation.
Qualified prospects could schedule the next appointment …
… Through a separate Free Strategy Session page.
Instead of relying on her to send every file and coordinate every appointment …
… The funnel gave each prospect a clear path forward.
Then We Looked Beyond Appointment Scheduling
We also looked beyond delivering the guide and scheduling appointments.
After someone scheduled a meeting …
… The system could automatically send a questionnaire requesting the information she needed.
Prospects could provide details about their project.
Answer important questions.
And upload relevant documents …
… Before the meeting.
That allowed her to arrive prepared.
She didn’t have to spend the first part of the conversation collecting basic information.
And the prospect didn’t have to send documents through separate email conversations repeatedly.
We Connected the Entire Sequence
Agreements could be prepared …
… And sent electronically for signature.
Follow-up messages could be delivered automatically.
Appointment confirmations could be sent immediately.
Reminders could reduce missed meetings.
And new customers could receive clear instructions about what would happen next.
Instead of treating each activity as an unrelated administrative task …
… We organized everything as one connected sequence.
The funnel facilitated the journey from initial interest …
… To an informed prospect …
… To a scheduled appointment …
… To a signed agreement …
… To the beginning of the project.
The Funnel Facilitated
the Personal Conversations
The funnel didn’t replace the personal conversations that made the sale possible.
It facilitated everything surrounding those conversations.
Her prospects knew what to do next.
She received the information she needed.
Appointments were scheduled.
Documents were collected.
Agreements were signed.
And new customers moved into onboarding …
… With fewer delays and less confusion.
The process became easier for the prospect.
And it became easier for her.
“My Sales Process Became Effortless”
The effect went beyond saving time.
In her words:
“My sales process became effortless.”
All she had to do was show up for the conversations that required her expertise.
The system handled much of the repetitive administration …
… Before and after those conversations.
She could focus on understanding the prospect.
Evaluating the project.
Answering questions.
And recommending the right solution.
She no longer had to carry the entire process personally.
Automation Made Delegation Possible
Eventually …
… The funnel created an even larger breakthrough.
Because the process had become so clear and automated …
… She was able to hire an assistant who could run the sales process without her.
Before the funnel …
… The process lived largely inside her head …
… And depended on her personal effort.
Afterward …
… It became a defined sequence another person could understand and run.
The assistant didn’t have to recreate the process.
They didn’t have to guess what the owner would do.
And they didn’t have to remember every administrative detail.
The funnel established the path.
The operating system made the work visible.
And the assistant could keep the process moving.
The Result:
Manual Became Automated and
Automated Became Delegatable
That’s one of the most powerful results of the Prime Selling System Funnel™.
Automation doesn’t merely make a sales process faster.
It makes the process more consistent.
Less stressful.
And easier to transfer to someone else.
First …
… You develop the process manually.
Then …
… You automate the repetitive parts.
Finally …
… You delegate the operation of the system.
Manual becomes automated.
Automated becomes delegatable.
And what once depended entirely on the owner …
… Becomes a system the business can run.
